We are installing two new trees to the left of the eighth fairway this morning. These trees will help to further define the left edge and corner of the dogleg.

The tree locations were selected during a recent on-course Rules and Green Committee meeting. After the loss of a pine tree n this area earlier in the year, it was determined that additional trees were needed to help protect and define the hole.

In conjunction with the installation of these trees, the left edge of the fairway will be brought in by approximately 5-8 feet from the start of the fairway to the dogleg.

We hope you will enjoy these new features as they become more established over time.

We aerified a small section of 1 green in order to help combat the onset of black layer in the area. The valley that runs through the green is a collection point for water as it drains through the profile. As this winter did not bring us the flushing rain events we would have liked, irrigation played a much larger roll over the past several months.

These added winter irrigation cycles resulted in the accumulation of water in this low area. Over a period of time, the water takes up more space in the soil than oxygen and results in an oxygen deprived or anaerobic scenario.

In order to bring additional oxygen into this area as well as introduce new sand into the profile, this small area was aerified, topdressed, brined and rolled. The recovery should be quite rapid.

Our Head Golf Professional here at SeaCliff Country Club was catapulted into the limelight on Monday. Chris was taking part in the Southern California PGA’s TPS Series at Indian Wells Golf Resort on Monday. He unfortunately did not get the win, but he did walk away with a piece of history…

Chris may have been the first person to ACE the same hole, twice in the same day in two separate rounds of a competition!

Yes, two aces on the same day, same hole in separate rounds! Amazing!! Congratulations Chris from the Golf Course Maintenance Staff!

Plugging Away

Each time we aerify fairways we are collecting many of the plugs that are produced. These plugs are being used to help introduce Kikuyugrass to weaker areas in the rough or areas with exposed roots.

This process was very successful earlier this year on 18 and 1. Currently we have new plugs that are roped off on holes 3,4,6,7,14,15,16 and 17. It will take about 3-4 weeks to get them filled in and ready for play.

Fountain update

The new fountain has been installed in the putting green lake. The new pattern and lighting is a great aesthetic improvement while the volume of water and oxygen incorporated into the lake is a huge improvement over the previous system.

There are also three sub-surface hydro-mixers installed in the lake adjacent to 10 tees. These will keep constant motion in the water and allow for higher levels of oxygen.

We hope you enjoy the new feature!
