Over the next two weeks we will be removing the tee yardage plates temporarily in order to conduct a much needed refurbishment.

The process that is depicted below in photos, consists of pressure washing the plates, applying a black automotive primer, painting the plates with an metallic blue automotive paint, grinding the paints off of the raised surfaces and completing the process with a coat of clear acrylic.

The results speak for themselves as you can see below.

Mounds Abound

During our tee renovation (which incidentally is going very well) we are creating a few mounds in strategic locations near each tee that is under construction.

The sod (that we did not utilize in other areas) that has been stripped from the construction area has been hauled to these locations: right of the cart path on 3, left of 8 fairway near the chipping area and to the right side of 16 fairway.

These sod piles were then roto-tilled and tracked in with a bulldozer to aid in compaction and shaping. This process was followed by an application of fertilizer to aid in the recovery.

The Kikuyugrass within the pile will recover and fill in over the next several weeks. This was a very efficient way to add some mounding while disposing of unusable spoils.

This is a time-lapse video of the installation of 419 Bermudagrass on the tee tops on hole 9.  The installation was completed with “big roll” sod instead of a historically traditional smaller sod pieces.  The advantages of big roll are many.  They include faster installation, fewer seams to knit together, quicker to be ready for play.

The project is moving along well as the 9th hole was completed today with the installation of the Kikuyugrass surrounds.  We are looking forward to opening the tees in approximately 10-14 days.

Over the past few days we have completed our greens aerification which included 1/2″ coring tines on close spacing followed by sand topdressing and soil amendments. We have also completed our tee overseeding, overseeding of the putting green surrounds and lake, as well as the aerification of our fairways. This process is a lengthy one but it is also a very beneficial one.

During the closure of the course, we were able to accomplish several other tasks as well. Sod was installed in the approach on the left of 15 green to remove the poor quality bermudagrass, it was also installed behind 13 green, to the right of 17 green and along the cart path on 18 fairway. These areas were all in need of improved turf quality due to high populations of cool season turf. Irrigation was installed behind 18 green and the shrubs on the right side of the driving range tee were removed as well.

As you can see, it is a very busy time around the Club when it is closed. We greatly appreciate your patience as we perform these tasks.

Below is a time-lapse video of the aerification process on the putting green.

Setting up Borders

The tee renovation project is moving along very well. As you return to the Club today, you will begin to see the defined size and shape of the tees on 1,9 and 10. These complexes all have been shaped, laser leveled and have the tee borders installed around the edges. Sod will begin to be delivered on Tuesday and should be completed on these three holes on Wednesday or Thursday.

Hole #3 is well shaped and should see laser leveling and borders by next Tuesday. Sod has been stripped from hole 17 and hole 13 is still undisturbed.

The project is going very well in our eyes and as the sod begins to be installed, the true value of these new complexes will be very evident.

Thank you for your patience as we work to make these improvements!
